Matt Ransom enjoys a varied career as an orchestral musician, chamber musician, and educator. He has performed as principal tubist with the Winston-Salem Symphony since 1994. He has performed with the North Carolina, Charlotte, Augusta, Long Bay and Greensboro symphonies and has performed in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Holland and Austria. As a chamber musician, he has performed throughout the southeastern states, the Mid-West, and the Mid-Atlantic as tubist with Carolina Brass. Founded in 1997, Carolina Brass performs a variety of programs for audiences of all ages. The group has commissioned numerous new compositions for brass quintet and has recorded one compact disc on the Mark Records label, and two compact discs on the Summit Records label. In addition to teaching at Wake Forest, Mr. Ransom teaches tuba and euphonium at the North Carolina School of the Arts, and St. Augustine’s College. He also spends his summers teaching tuba and euphonium at! the New England Music Camp in Sidney, Maine. Mr. Ransom is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts. He also studied at the Peabody Institute, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His teachers include David Lewis, David Mills, David Fedderly, and James Jenkins.
