Amber Ferenz holds a Bachelor’s degree in Bassoon Performance from the North Carolina School of the Arts, and a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts. Her teachers include Mark Popkin, Julie Feves, and Steven Dibner. She has twice been a contrabassoon fellow at the Aspen Music Festival. Amber is a founding member of the Los Angeles-based chamber music collective inauthentica. She performed with the Open Dream Ensemble for two seasons as actor, dancer, singer and bassoonist, and is now the second bassoonist with the Asheville Symphony, as well as the contrabassoonist with the Greensboro Symphony. She has taught bassoon on the faculties of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, CalArts, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Amber is a champion of new music and is also a composer and violist. Her music for bassoon is gaining a national reputation, and her catalogue includes chamber and solo music.
